They say the eyes are the windows to the Soul, and the equivalent I guess in a car is its head lights.
Lots more fiddling the last month with finishing off some minor repairs to the door sills and the bumper valences. Again big thanks to my brother for more excellent welding work.. The bumpers were stripped back to bare metal and etch primed. They will need a little bit of work by the panel beater before painting.
So it came the time to fit up the bright work. The new bumper blades and over-riders were purchased back in the late 80s and have been sitting wrapped in plastic ever since. A bit of Chrome polish and they came up like new. They went on with only some minor adjustment needed. The old hockey sticks had a couple of broken studs repaired and were fitted. They aren’t as bright as the new chrome, but for nearly 60 year chrome, they are in pretty good nick.
So it all sat, all nicely fitted, gaps looking pretty good and a the chrome glinting in the sun. But something was missing. My intention was not to fit the head lamps until after the car was painted, but Elsie seemed to be calling to have her eyes opened, so after lunch we pulled the box full of old lamps and surrounds down out of the loft and gave them a good clean, polished the chrome ….and Elsie opened her eyes!
