The main focus of the last few weeks has been the Engine Bay. With the completion of this, the corner has well and truly been turned and the reassembly process can begin in ernest.
My prospects for the engine bay were not to have some better than new finish. The car is 57 years old after all. It has a few dents and scars that add character and tell its story.
What I was after was a neat and tidy engine bay, that looked nice when the bonnet is up, but doesn’t look like every panel has been worked on to make it perfect.
With that in mind, some minor cosmetic filling was done, mainly to cover the soldering that had been done to fill in the excess holes and to smooth out some of the areas where it looked like someone had taken to the poor girl with a hammer.
The engine bay had previously been taken back to bare metal, etch primed and primed.
The Process was: Back to bare metal on the areas requiring fill. Filled with up to 5 thin fill coats, spot etch primed over filler, two more coats of primer-filler over entire engine bay, spot putty minor imperfections, seam sealer, 6 coats of acrylic colour. The results here are off the gun. It will be given 3 weeks or so to harden off then wet sanded with 2000 grit and hand buffed.
