The final task I had set myself to complete in my 3 weeks leave was to get the Engine and Gearbox in the car.
The Engine and gearbox had been completely rebuilt 20 years ago. For the engine this meant complete strip, block acid dipped, reground crank, new bearing, rebored, new pistons, new seals, head machined, new valves and valve guides etc. Box had all new bearings, new clutch, flywheel refaced etc.
Since then it has sat on an Engine stand with a plastic cover. This last week the cover was removed and the Engine cleaned to remove the build up of dust. Oil was drained and new engine oil installed. We then reverse primed the Oil pump by removing the oil pipe banjo bolt at the block and pouring oil directly into the block while spinning the motor backward. A bit was made up to fit the crank and with the spark plugs removed the motor was spun with an electric drill until we got oil pressure on a temporarily installed Oil gage (note that you need to stop when the drill starts to smoke!)
Satisfied that everything seemed to be doing what it should, the motor and gearbox were dropped into the car. A major Milestone achieved !
The Engine
